Speech on Climate Change

Mr. President, esteemed teachers, and respected judges, Asslam-O-Alikum

The topic of discussion is climate change and its effects.

Mr. President, it is imperative to recognize that climate change stands as a major global crisis today. Rising global temperatures, extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and continued loss of biodiversity are all dire consequences of contemporary climate change.

In the past, our understanding of climate change was rudimentary. While people may have noted local changes in weather patterns, the tools and knowledge needed to understand and deal with broader global climate trends were conspicuously absent. However, the present age gives us a much deeper and scientifically proven understanding of climate change. And the fact that today we are also facing a global environmental problem caused by human activities

Gentlemen, Pakistan, like the entire world, is suffering from the severe effects of climate change. Catastrophic floods, untimely rains, unseasonal temperature fluctuations, and climate change are concrete consequences of this drastic change.

In the past, when the global population was very small, the world was somewhat protected from the severe effects of climate change. However, today, our population is increasing day by day, and the demands of the growing population also require more factories and industries, which unfortunately increase the problems of air and water pollution.

Mr. President, it would be wrong to view climate change only as a negative aspect of human life and resources. We can think back to the earliest periods of human history, when the world's population was in the thousands and resources were relatively abundant. In contrast, today's world population is over seven billion, but resources are scarce. No nation can independently supply all the resources for its population, which forces us to resort to artificial methods, and these artificial methods, by which we obtain resources, have harmful effects on human health and human lifespan.

Today, the profound effects of climate change are being felt all over the world, and I want to emphasize how this phenomenon is particularly relevant to Pakistan. Although we do't have substantial political or economic power, our awareness of the effects of climate change is growing.

I think it is important to clarify the severe effects and consequences of climate change on Pakistan.

  • Every year, we face natural calamities like floods.
  • We are slowly depleting our clean water reserves.
  • The health sector in Pakistan is also quite affected.
  • Our agriculture is also increasing day by day.
  • Untimely rains and flood disasters have destroyed the economy of the entire country.

Mr. President, agriculture, the backbone of our nation, is not immune to the effects of climate change. In summary, the far-reaching effects of climate change have not left any corner of the world. Pakistan is facing its own unique challenges and difficulties.

  • We need to control these effects of climate change over time.
  • We have to stop indiscriminate deforestation and indiscriminate logging of timber.
  • We have to create awareness in agricultural sectors and educate farmers.
  • We have to create awareness about the impact of climate change on the health sector.
  • We have to create awareness among the public that interference with the law of nature is nothing but a disaster for our present and future generations.

Thanks
